Speaker Bios
Bill Robinson
Mr. Robinson has broad experience in all areas of employee benefits, including pension and welfarebenefits. He has extensive experience with 401(k) plans and 403(b) plans, having assisted manycompanies of all sizes in designing such plans to take maximum advantage of the benefits theyprovide, both to the employer and its employees. He assists clients when plan issues arise and makescorrections to such plans through the IRS voluntary compliance program. He also has experiencerepresenting clients when their qualified plans are audited by either the IRS or the DOL. Headvises corporate 401(k) committees and has experience preparing 401(k) committee charters andadvises 401(k) plan sponsors that are changing service providers. He also provides advice on alltypes of benefit plans in connection with mergers and acquisitions. He has represented multi-employer pension and welfare plans and advises corporate clients on multi-employer plan issues,particularly withdrawal liability matters, which can be financially devastating.
Bradford Harvey
Brad Harvey concentrates in labor and employment law and class and collective actiondefense. He has defended employers in agency and court actions, including hostile workenvironment, discrimination, retaliation, wage and hour, FMLA, Fair Credit Reporting Actand other claims, in Tennessee, Georgia, New York, California, Ohio, Texas, Missouri, NewJersey and elsewhere. Brad has handled hundreds of labor arbitrations and representedemployers in union avoidance efforts, work stoppages and the defense of NLRB charges.Brad has defeated and reached favorable resolutions of class and collective actions at thelocal, regional and national level. He regularly advises employers on all aspects of labor andemployment compliance and best practices. Additionally, Brad obtained a jury verdict in aneminent domain trial for over 20 times the amount offered by the condemning government agency.
Charles Gilbreath II
Charles Gilbreath is an employment litigator who counsels employers of alltypes and sizes on a broad spectrum of matters ranging from workers'compensation to employee leave to harassment and discriminationinvestigations. He regularly appears before state, federal, and administrativecourts, representing and defending clients facing compliance issues related tothe Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA), the Fair Labor Standards Act(FLSA), and the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), as well as Title VIImatters related to gender and sexual-orientation. He advises clients onwrongful discharge, retaliation, and hiring and discipline matters, most recentlyinvolving legal drug use. He also proactively works with employers to updatepolicies and handbooks to address today's evolving workplace.
Stacie Caraway
Stacie advises employers of all sizes on how to comply with applicable state and federal laws concerning employee leave and pregnancy, disability and religious accommodation as well as anti-discrimination, harassment and retaliation laws while still effectively runningtheir businesses.
Chris Crevasse
Chris Crevasse focuses his practice on employee benefits, the Affordable Care Act (ACA),and other aspects of employment law, including immigration law. He assists his clients withthe design, drafting, and updating of retirement plans and other employee benefit plans; withERISA and federal tax compliance; with benefit plan administration and audits, includingaudits by the IRS and DOL; and with resolving employee benefits issues through the IRSand DOL correction programs. He also counsels clients with respect to the ACA, COBRA,and other employment-related laws and regulations, and provides advice regarding benefitplan issues in corporate transactions, plan terminations, and plan mergers. Chris’simmigration work focuses primarily on assisting employers and foreign nationals withsecuring and maintaining the approvals and documents necessary for the foreign nationalsand their families to live and work in the United States.
Jessica Malloy-Thorpe
Jessica Malloy-Thorpe focuses her practice in the area of business litigation, with anemphasis on labor and employment litigation matters. In her representation of employers,Jessica is experienced in preparing motions for summary judgment on discrimination claimsand in mediating various employment disputes. Jessica is experienced in enforcingarbitration agreements, responding to the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission oncharges of discrimination and responding to Department of Labor investigations. Jessicaalso advises employers under various employment laws, including Title VII, the ADA, FMLA,FLSA, USERRA and the WARN Act, among others. Prior to joining Miller & Martin, Jessicaclerked for the Honorable Susan K. Lee in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District ofTennessee and the Honorable Susan L. Collins in the U.S. District Court for the NorthernDistrict of Indiana.
Justin Furrow
Employers of all size — from large, national and regional companies to family-owned businesses and startup ventures — rely on Justin Furrow’s adviceregarding federal and state workplace laws and regulations, and they trust hisexpertise in defending them in employment litigation.Justin has successfully defended and assisted clients in matters arising undermajor employment laws in federal and state courts, and before administrativeagencies such as the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission(EEOC) and U.S. Department of Labor (DOL).
Lane Crowder
Ms. Crowder's practice includes advising employers on a wide variety of issues, includinghandbook policies, workplace investigations, and sensitive employee situations, such as disciplineand termination. She also investigates claims of sexual harassment or other discriminatory conduct,as well as incidents of workplace violence. She helps train employers on best practices for handlingworkplace investigations and reducing claims of discrimination, harassment, and retaliation.
Maury Nicely
Maury Nicely concentrates his practice in the areas of employment litigation, labor law, and general business litigation. He has addressed issuespertaining to all areas of labor and employment law in order toassist clients in preparing and maintaining employee records, making proactivedecisions to prevent workplaceissues from arising, and addressing formal complaints if and when they arise. He has representedclients indefending against a wide variety of lawsuits brought in both federal and state courts, claims for unemployment compensation, and complaintsfiled with the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC)and corresponding state agencies. Maury has prepared contractualagreements and documents associated with a broad range of employmentdecisions, including employment contracts, separation agreements,non-competition and confidentiality agreements, and programs for alternative methods of dispute resolution (ADR) in the workplace. He has also drafted employment policies and procedures for a wide range of clients, from small start-up businesses to established, multinational employers.
Rusty Gray
Mr. Gray also has more than 15 years of experience in commercial and business litigation,including litigation involving contractual matters, trade secrets, stock valuation and real property.He has litigated matters before courts or government agencies in approximately 20 states.
